2018 Annual Holiday Party

2018 Annual Holiday Party

To commemorate a very exciting year for New Democrats, the Toronto Centre NDP are delighted to invite you to join us at our annual holiday party.

Celebrate all the amazing accomplishments this year with food, drinks and great conversation with fellow New Democrats as we celebrate this festive season. Together, we've turned Toronto Centre orange provincially, and have started building momentum for an exciting 2019. We will be joined by our very own MPP Suze Morrison, our Toronto Centre city councillor, Kristyn Wong-Tam and TDSB Trustee Chris Moise. All supporters are welcome.

Please head to the party room on the first floor, to the left of the main entrance.  We hope to see you there!

What an historic night in Toronto Centre!

What an historic night in Toronto Centre!

Earlier this evening, I spoke with David Morris and Meredith Cartwright. I want to thank them both for their commitment to public service and their grace and hard work throughout the campaign. We are fortunate to have such dedicated people among our neighbours in Toronto Centre.

I am ecstatic to tell you that our patience and efforts have been rewarded. I am deeply humbled that our community has placed their trust in me to represent the wonderful and diverse communities of Toronto Centre at Queen’s Park.

As your MPP, I will strive to be open, available, and committed to listening to the voices of all of Toronto Centre’s constituents. I will carry with me the progressive values that brought me this far – values of equity, fairness, inclusion, and justice.

There are more people to thank than I can do justice to right now. I am grateful to Trevor, my family, my whole campaign team, every supporter, and to absolutely every Toronto Centre resident who took the time this election to vote for a better future.

I extend the warmest congratulations to my New Democrat colleagues across Ontario who gave this campaign the full extent of their love and abilities. Though we must continue to wait for the New Democrat government Ontario needs, our organization is stronger than ever and our resolve to continue to work for change for the better has never been more firm.

Thank you for your support and trust.

In solidarity,

-- Suze

Thank you!

Thank you!

It is an enormous honour to be trusted with the provincial NDP nomination in Toronto Centre. To see first hand the commitment, diversity, and resiliency among New Democrats in Toronto Centre has been humbling. I pledge to represent you as best I can.

Over the past weeks and months, I have been inspired by the work and activism of Kevin Beaulieu and Michael Erickson. I look forward to working together for many years to come, and I commend them for their superb campaigns. I must also thank my supporters, volunteers, donors and cheerleaders for carrying me to the finish line. My family, especially my husband Trevor, have stood next to me the whole way and I am forever grateful for their love and support.

I truly believe this year we will send an NDP government to Queen's Park. Careerist Liberals, including our former MPP, have not even had the dignity to complete their mandates. The Conservatives are leaderless and mired in scandal of their own. The NDP has never been better positioned to form government - and with your help, I will be part of it.

To win in Toronto Centre, we need to work together. I will need your advice, your time, certainly your vote and yes, sometimes your money to make it happen. But we cannot wait any longer for Toronto Centre to have effective representation at Queen's Park.

I am starting today. Will you help today too?

Here's what I need to start this campaign on the strongest footing.

  • Spreading the word - Tell your friends, family, and neighbours that I am running to represent you at Queen's Park. Let me know if there's an event or get together I can join to meet more of our community.
  • Keep up to date! Follow me on Facebook or Twitter.
  • Volunteers - Sign up to volunteer
  • Money - Donate Online Now

Stay tuned for more updates as this campaign for Queen's Park gets rolling.

See you soon,

-- Suze Morrison

Join us on March 3rd as we nominate our candidate for the 2018 provincial election. Ontario NDP leader and Hamilton Centre MPP Andrea Horwath will also be joining us at the meeting.

We're excited to have a contested nomination, with three candidates currently approved to seek the nomination:

Members of the NDP in good standing who reside within the boundaries of the Toronto Centre electoral district are eligible to vote. Please bring proof of address and proof of membership (e.g. email receipt if you have one) to speed registration. Members who were in good standing at the end of 2017 continue to be in good standing until March 31, 2018 -- therefore, if you were eligible to vote in the 2017 federal leadership race and you live in Toronto Centre, you are eligible to vote in this provincial nomination contest.

Registration will begin 3:00pm, and the meeting will be called to order at 3:30pm.

We hope to see you there!

"TCNDP

Your Toronto Centre NDP is pleased to invite you to an important membership meeting on Sunday January 28, from 1:30pm - 4:00pm. The meeting will be held in the ballroom at the 519, at 519 Church St. This is an accessible space. Please plan to arrive at 1:30pm to confirm your membership and receive your voting cards so we may begin promptly at 2:00pm.

This meeting will serve as the Riding Association Annual General Meeting for both federal and provincial riding associations. At the AGM, a new executive will be elected. See below for a list of executive positions and information on how to express interest.

The event can also be found on Facebook.

Membership

To participate in the AGM, you must be a member in good standing of the Toronto Centre NDP. Memberships will be available at the door for new and renewing members and payable by cash, credit card, or cheque. If you have recently moved to Toronto Centre and your membership is with another Riding Association, or if you have recently joined or renewed online, please bring your card or copy of your renewal email. If you live outside the boundaries of Toronto Centre, but would like have your membership moved to Toronto Centre, please bring proof of membership as well.

Executive Positions

The Riding Association will elect to its joint federal provincial executive the following positions:

  • President (Provincial)
  • President (Federal)
  • Vice President (Provincial)
  • Vice President (Federal)
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Recording Secretary
  • Membership Secretary
  • Youth Officer
  • Women's Rep
  • Disability Rights Rep
  • Fundraising Director
  • Aboriginal Liaison
  • LGBTQ Liaison
  • Ethnocultural Liaison
  • Labour Liaison
  • Social Convenor
  • Communications Director
  • Voter Contact Organizer
  • Members at Large
  • Provincial Council Delegates

Any member of the NDP in good standing can stand for election to the Executive. As you can see, the list of positions is quite lengthy and not all are filled every year. Gender parity is an important principle for the Riding Association in choosing an executive, as is attention to representation from the many diverse communities in our Riding. If you would like to express your interest in standing for election prior to the meeting, would like to stand for a position but cannot attend the meeting, or if you have questions about what executive positions involve in terms of time and responsibility, please email to [email protected]. Nominations, including self-nominations, will be taken from the floor at the meeting. For contested positions, each candidate will have two minutes to address the membership prior to the vote.
